Going to Iceland

I have been fortunate to have travelled a lot in my life and have spent time living in Norway, Hong Kong and Switzerland. Am thrilled to be ‘settled’ in Prince Edward County… but, I am going to Iceland next week – a new destination for me. Looking forward to it. Watch this video regarding the recent volcano eruption.

I am a volunteer at Hospice Prince Edward. This is a fairly new activity for me but I enjoy it, find it rewarding and want to learn more. This weekend I will be attending a workshop on Bereavement Counselling. I will post about it…

Welcome to West Lake Publishing’s blog. This publishing house began in the Fall of 2009. We are in production with our first books. Most exciting is the publication of Tim Brookes‘ book Signs of Life: A Memoir of Dying and Discovery. This book will be released in Canada in June 2010.

We are also working on some personal histories – the compilation of heirloom books for families. I am realizing how exciting and necessary these books are and will be in the future.

As families are scattered geographically around the world; social media such as Facebook may be able to keep communication and updating news fresh and timely. However, what future generations will come to realize is that their personal family histories – the stories of their parent and grandparents, and in effect, their identity, also needs to be documented.

I will be blogging with relevant articles, links and progress of books as well as thoughts and news on the subject. Please feel free to write any thoughts you have on preserving family histories.
